Meet superheroes in person in Illinois

What city was it in which people on the street would turn their eyes to the sky and exclaim, “Look! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No…it’s–!”

It was Metropolis, of course. And Metropolis, Illinois holds a Superman Celebration every June to honor its special relationship with the Man of Steel.

Other superheroes and heroines drop by the celebration and enter the Costume Contest, including Batman, the Green Hornet, Supergirl and Wonder Woman. Keep your eyes peeled — you’re also likely to see some famous villains, such as Poison Ivy and Lex Luthor. Read the rest of this entry »

Immerse yourself in a good story

The music festival with a little of everything

Pssst – how about tickets to a music festival with featured premieres that other people will be talking about for years? You’ll be able to nod knowingly and tell them you’ve already seen it. At Spoleto. In Charleston, South Carolina.

Founded in 1977 as the American companion to the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, the Spoleto Festival USA has showcased over 200 American premieres and continues to serve as a venue for the famous or soon-to-be-famous. Celebrate organic and artisanal beers and wines in Portland

If Oregon is in your travel plans, May and June are a great time to sample the state’s home grown wines and craft beers.

Three events take place in May –  Pinot in the Pearl, the Portland Indie Food and Wine Festival and the King’s Raven Wine Tasting in Oregon City.

Held at the Historic Venue Pearl, Pinot in the Pearl features Pinots, Chardonnays, Syrahs, Rieslings and others from over 30 vineyards and wineries in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains and Ribbon Ridge American Viticultural Areas (ACAs.)
