How to Find the Best Airfare Deals

By Bob Levin on July 5th, 2011

Categories: The Travel Debunker

When in search for the best airfare deals there is no one particular site which will provide you with the best of the best possible deals regardless of their promising claims. The fact is that it requires extensive research on your part to find the airfare deal which best suits your travel situation and needs. There are various factors which resultantly determine the cost of the airfare such as travel time and days, kind of travel and the location of travel, to mention a few, therefore, research concerning every factor will facilitate you in consequentially finding the best airfare deals.

Starting off with the basics, the best way to find good airfare deals is to visit airfare websites. There are three kinds of airfare websites namely aggregator sites, booking agency sites, and official airline webpage. Aggregators search up on different airfares of different airlines free of charges and instead make money through on-site advertising and affiliate hotel deals. Booking agency websites offer various airfare options and on booking charge a small sum of money in addition to the airfare. They act as middlemen between the customers and the airlines and often offer various additional discount packages which otherwise cannot be availed. Then there are official websites of airlines which provide the customers with various travel packages which best caters to their needs. Usually the additional cost of booking through an agent is saved. Out of the three kinds of websites, no one can say which one is better as, depending on the needs and the kind of travel package required by the customers, these websites have different deals to offer. Travel group might get a better deal from the booking agency website than from aggregator or official airline websites.

The timing of the purchase of the ticket also determines the kind of airfare deals you will be offered. Booking or purchase of the ticket months prior to the day of travel mostly saves you a lot of money. For example, during vacation period, the airfares rise extensively as demand increases, booking prior to the increase in demand makes it possible to purchase tickets at lower prices. Another way to find the best airfare deals is to search up on different nearby airport locations. Especially if you are travelling within country it is often wise to keep into consideration various destination locations. It may be cheaper to land at an airport nearby the desired location and travel to the final destination by bus or taxi instead of directly flying to that location. Moreover, depending on the location from where you are flying it could be possible to find better deals if you flying from a nearby alternative airport.

All it takes is research and knowledge of various websites which offer airfare deals and usually facilitate easy and better decision making. In the modern world of today there are endless possibilities to realize and opportunities to avail which can be discovered simply by spending some time online.

What is the biggest stress on vacations?

By Bob Levin on June 21st, 2011

Categories: The Travel Debunker

The results obtained from a survey regarding vacation and traveling, conducted by an independent research company TNS, highlights an obvious answer: Money. It is evident, without a doubt, that the main concern of individuals during vacation time is the cash that is going to be spent which resultantly adds stress for the vacation planner. It is ironic how vacations are taken to relieve oneself of stress and daily tension, but planning one to do so adds to that. Budget-related decisions when planning for the affordable vacation ultimately determines the kind of experience and time a person will have.

Financial stress does not end at the initial planning stages of vacation. Impulsive shopping, spontaneous decisions or unplanned expenditures such as medical expenses all further build up the stress involved when taking a vacation. Only the privileged or the ignorant can experience what is known as a ‘stress-relief-vacation’ because obviously with limited financial freedom and budget constraint, stress is inevitable. Who in his or her right mind is capable of splashing out hundreds of dollars for an hour of stress free spa experience when you know you would have to eventually get back and make up for the spent amount. The survey also determined the fact the 64% of women and 41% of men ultimately feel guilty for vacation spending. Clearly, the added financial pressure and guilt is not worth the ‘stress reducing’ vacation experience if thought about rationally.

However, there are ways to reduce or control this unavoidable stress when planning and taking a vacation. It is highly suggested to consult a travel agency when planning a vacation. The agents turn constraint into possible options which one could only dream about within the limited budget. As travel agents usually have direct links or business relations with the major hotels and airlines, they are able to provide better and more affordable travel packages. Depending on occasions most agents also provide special offers or discounts that individuals can avail. Special or discount offers include free spa coupons, free dinner or lunch coupons, one-day adventure experience tickets, or discounted transportation to mention a few.

Another stress that most vacation takers experience is of unexpected travel expenses related to missed or cancelled flights and lost baggage or personal belongings. The smartest way to curb such expenses is to go for travel insurance. Most of the time travel insurance packages cover expenses incurred while travelling which are unplanned. With proper reasons, if a flight is missed the insurance covers the fine expense or due to some situation a flight is cancelled the expense of the possible stay at a hotel is covered. Moreover, if while travelling some personal belonging is lost such as baggage, money, credit card or official documents, the insurance covers the loss or the possible cost associated with replacing or finding the lost possession.

Conclusively, financial stress is inevitable but there are ways to reduce or eliminated such worries which can simply be done by consulting a travel agent or taking advantage of travel insurance packages. If these simple steps are followed, a perfect stress free vacation is not a distant dream.

MOTEL.COM: BUSTING MYTHS ASSOCIATED WITH TRAVEL REVIEWS

By Bob Levin on April 29th, 2011

Categories: The Travel Debunker

The internet being an indispensible part of our lives today, the popularity of travel review sites has escalated. Increasing numbers of people are now dependent on this searching technology to discover and explore their target locations for traveling. Regardless of this heightened popularity, travel review sites face various concern and apprehension from the public.

Popular travel websites have recently been accused of publishing fabricated reviews of hotels that want to boost or inflate their ratings. The travel industry is believed to hire public relation officers or customers to post positive comments in many cases that are exaggerated or blatantly untrue. These hired individuals are those who have no actual first-hand experience of staying or visiting the promoted locations. The purpose of fake reviews extends beyond the positive aspect of gaining higher ratings. Some find the lack of transparency and controls of these travel review sites as an opportunity to topple the reputation of their competitors by posting negative reviews.

The credibility myth of travel reviews leads customers into generally doubting the reliability of  travel review sites and ratings. Most travel review sites lack control and transparency, and thus allow for any individual to sign up and write a review. This increases the risk of the travel sites falling victim to biased/manipulated reviews and  decreases the value of travel reviews and the credibility of the travel sites.

Motel.com is a travel site which is independent of any association with industry focused travel review sites. The site enhances the travel experience by working directly with the travelers who personally experiences hotel and motel accommodations and amenities. After the travelers stay at their hotel, they have the opportunity to compete a predesigned survey. This rating survey is available for future travelers to the hotel and actually helps the hotel better understand its shortcomings in the eyes of it guest, offering the hotel the opportunity to make improvements.

This structured guest travel review  distinguishes Motel.com generally from other travel sites. Unlike other websites which have little or no verification of whether the posted review is authentic and by a person who actually stayed at that particular location, Motel.com takes substantial measures to prevent this fabrication.

Motel.com encourages guests comment about their experience and about the hotel generally. Posting these comments is easy and convenient for the guest. Only a person who has stayed at the hotel has the opportunity to complete a review and therefore anyone using Motel.com can be assured the comments are authentic and credible. This emphasis on prevention of fabricated reviews and elimination of false, fabricated or exaggerated reviews provides the guest using Motel.com a high level of confidence of the  truthfulness of the review about a specific hotel or motel.
