| Following the death of Queen Anne in 1714, the Scots had tired of English rule. It was the 11th Earl of Mar, who inspired the First Jacobite Rising to restore the Kingdom of Scotland. The present Mar Hall, standing in a 240- acre estate, was built in 1840, a hundred years after the Earl*s death, and a fine example of Gothic architecture it is. After a massive ?15m restoration of its own, Mar Hall promises to be one of Scotland*s premier luxury retreats. 53 princely rooms are now magnificent suites resplendent in every luxury. They overlook the formal gardens, the Championship golf course (due to open for playing in Spring 2006) or the Kilpatrick Hills beyond where lies that jewel of Scotland - Loch Lomond. The hotel boasts the UK*s first Aveda Spa Concept offering a range of treatments and facilities. Dining options include gourmet dining in The Cristal, the Organic Spa Cafe and the Grand Hall for lighter food served all day. |
