Thompson MB Hotel Deals

Thompson is located in northern Manitoba near Mystery Lake, nine hours north of Winnipeg hotel discounts. This is the "Hub of the North", and has one prominent high rise building called the Highland Building, with a ten story mural of a wolf on the side. In 1956, a mother lode of nickel was discovered and modern day Thompson was born. But, because of its subarctic weather throughout the fall and winter, it has recently become a testing ground for manufacturers like Chrysler and Hummer to determine their automobiles' performance. Thus, the National Research Council of Canada has established the Global Aerospace Centre for Icing and Environmental Research (GLACIER). However, you will find hot deals on top-rated hotels with low-priced rooms in Thompson.

Thompson developed the Spirit Way, in honor of the wolf in 2008, a nature trail for hiking and biking or cross country skiing which runs through downtown and has 11 points of interest along the way not far from quality, low-cost motels. Just south of Thompson is Paint Lake and the second largest waterfall in Manitoba at Pisew Falls Provincial Park. Paint Lake is a forest surrounded lake with several islands, a marina, campsites and sports fields in the park surrounding it. This is great fishing, rafting and kayaking country in summer and tobogganing, Nordic skiing and snow mobile fun in winter. Sports consist of curling and ice hockey. Thompson hosts the Norman Northstars professional team.

In Thompson, a great deal of the city activities are held inside in the Tompson Rec Centre, from concerts to ice hockey to festivals. Indoors is also the Northplex Pool, just minutes from top-notch, cheaply priced hotels for year round heated enjoyment. Shopping and dining is also totally inside, but here there is an abundance of it since Thompson is the only urban civilization for thousands of Manitobans. When the weather warms briefly in July, people emerge for sun and fun with canoeing, fishing and hiking. Enjoy the Millenium Trail that begins in McLean Park along the Bruntwood River. The Thompson Zoo houses Nordic and arctic animals. There is a lot going on in Thompson, including comfortable lodgings at warm, friendly, inexpensive hotels.
