Anniston AL Hotel Deals
Anniston is in the northeastern part of Alabama at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the late 1800's it was named a model city for its design, and the nickname stuck. Fort McClellan was located nearby from 1917-1999. You'll find many worthwhile museums and historical sites near Anniston as well as low-priced quality hotels with great deals on rooms. The Anniston Museum of Natural History and Berman Museum of World History have fascinating exhibits like Hitler's tea cup. The Janney Furnace Museum is dedicated to the furnace industry that put the town on the map.
Anniston is also the place to come if you like fast cars. Not far from reasonably priced hotels with discounted room rates is the Talladega Speedway. For the expert hiker, the climb up the Rock Garden Trail from Cheaha Lake is well worth it. Hike or bike ride along Chief Ladiga Trail for up to 33 miles of pastureland and small towns. Or you may wish to stay closer to your comfortable, affordable hotel room and stroll through historic downtown instead. Noble Street in downtown has undergone restoration and become revitalized. There are many Victorian style homes in Anniston. Also explore the historic downtown areas of nearby Oxford and Gadsden for unique little stores and a hometown-country-Southern charm feeling. The Art Works Gallery is open from Tuesday through Saturday. It has a varied collection of oils, watercolors, photography, furniture and jewelry. Grab a bite to eat and a cold one at the historic Peerless Saloon. Other locals hang out at the Show Place which never closes. One of the claims to fame is that Anniston has the country's largest chair. Made of steel, it is actually an advertisement for a local office furniture retailer. But it is big!
Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge is worth exploring. Also close by is the Talladega National Forest. While you are out and about, stop by the historical markers explaining the bombing of the Freedom Riders' bus during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's and the birthplace of the local industrialist, governor and senator Thomas E. Kilby.
