Kid-Friendly Atlanta
Atlanta has a rich history and proud heritage. This is a great place to bring the kids to learn about our nation since Atlanta has been around through a vast majority of it. Tour the historic West End with homes dating back to before the Civil War. Learn about the rich black heritage here at fine African American colleges in the area clustered in a group known as the Atlanta University Center. Visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site in the Sweet Auburn District. Take a tour in an electric car of all the city's famous sites including the Centennial Olympic Park where you can watch the dancing Fountain of Lights. There are also many great homes to tour in the downtown and Midtown sections of town. The Wren's Nest is one of the oldest homes in the city and where the author of the Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit stories lived. On Saturdays right after lunchtime, children can gather for a special story time.
There are three places the kids will want to tour. The first is Imagine It!, otherwise known as the Children's Museum of Atlanta. It is in the heart of downtown near inexpensive Atlanta GA hotels. Head for the Georgia Aquarium to see penguins and whales as well as fish and sea mammals form all over the world. Next, tour the World of Coca Cola. Sample seventy different flavors and types of beverages, have a Coke float at a replica of an 1880's soda fountain and be wowed in the 4D theater.
Little girls will whine until you take them to the American Girl Boutique and Bistro. If you don’t know what that is, they will tell you in a heartbeat. Atlanta is where the famous Cabbage Patch Kids were born, and you can tour Babyland General Hospital and adopt your very own unique doll before touring the museum. How about a tour of the Center for Puppetry Arts with live performances and puppets from many cultures? You can even see kangaroos near Atlanta. The Kangaroo Conservation Center is just a short drive from Atlanta GA hotels where you can watch them run and romp. Take a guided safari tour or wander the "outback" nature trails. As we said, your kids will think Atlanta is a great place to vacation.
