Chicago - The Sports Paradise
Sports fans flock to Chicago all year long. Chicago is one of the few cities that have two or three professional teams playing simultaneously in different areas of the city. That is because there are seven of them who call Chicago home. This vibrant city hosts two NBL teams − the Chicago Cubs who play at Wrigley Field north of downtown Chicago hotels, and the White Sox who play at U.S. Cellular Field to the south of I-90. Because of this, Chicago has its own invisible Mason Dixon line. No peanuts and Cracker Jacks fence-straddlers allowed!
Football fans head for Soldier Field near Lake Michigan, the Field Museum and Navy Pier. When the NFL Chicago Bears rush to the end zone, the roar can be heard for miles. They have more players and coaches in the Pro Football Hall of Fame than any other team. Basketball fans cheer when the Chicago Bulls slam dunk the ball. The team of basketball greats like LeBron, Michael Jordan, Shaq and Kobe lights up the United Center on West Madison and fans fill the seats each game. Tickets start at only $10.00.
Chicago also is home to the Fire professional men' soccer team and the Blackhawks NHL hockey team who also play at the United Center. The women's professional WNBA team the Chicago Sky plays at the Allstate Arena. Some of the ladies were on the team that brought home the gold from the Beijing Olympic Games. All the game sites are a quick EL ride from discounted Chicago hotels.
Of course if you prefer to be active in sports instead of sitting in the bleachers or stands, Chicago won't disappoint. Jog, walk or cycle on the 18 mile path along Lake Michigan with amenities such as over thirty beaches, benches and tennis courts sprinkled along the way. You can park your car and rent a bike at the McDonald's Cycle Center. You can even take a tour via bicycle. Rent a kayak or canoe along the Chicago River. Or, maybe you'd rather chase a divotted white ball around one of the outstanding eight public golf courses? Chicago has been known to sponsor over 150 marathons, runs and walks each year. So, get a ticket or get your game on in the Windy City.
