Get out and Live – St Louis Style
St. Louis is a city with lots of sports action, both spectator and interactive. Where the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers merge, there are fabulous water recreational opportunities. Come experience the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area, a 4,300 acre spot where the two mighty rivers converge. Form hunting to fishing, hiking the trials, or just bird watching, this place is a must see. Kayak or canoe in Creve Coeur Park to the west of the city then enjoy a picnic, play Frisbee golf or practice your archery skills. For more water thrills, try out the Aquaport at the Maryland Heights Centre with everything from a lazy tube float to extreme rapids fun.
Nature lovers will be enthralled with Lone Elk Park where bison, elks and wild turkeys roam along the wildlife trails. Travel part of the famous Route 66 on bike to see one of the largest pedestrian bridges in the world called the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. Then, spend some time in the Route 66 State Park, complete with a memorabilia museum. For multiple outdoor activities from boating and swimming to golf and horseback riding, head south to Trout Lodge.
Indoors, enjoy Steinberg Ice Rink. In the summer months, there are volleyball tournaments there. Or, head west to the Greensfelder Recreation Complex in Edgar M. Queeny County Park in Balwin, MO, less than an hour's drive from downtown. Inside you will find an ice rink, Olympic sized swimming pool, and roller hockey. Outdoors are four lakes, tennis courts and hiking trails. You can even take a hayride. And of course, you have to get tickets to Busch Stadium and watch a home game of the MBL St. Louis Cardinals, or root on the NHL St Louis Blues. Don't forget the NFL St Louis Rams playing in the Edward Jones Dome.
St. Louis offer great golfing as well. Forest Park Gofl Course offers three different challenge levels of courses. It is the oldest and best public golf course just minutes from great downtown St Louis hotel deals. Or, try the championship 18 hole course at the Gateway National Links.
