Portland Overview

Located at the junction of the Willamette and Columbia River, Portland is Oregon's largest city and the third largest city in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 1851, Portland is known for its public transit, city planning and its NBA Basketball team, The Portland Trailblazers. Named after the home town of one of the founders, Portland was established as a port city and due to it's access to the Pacific River from the Willamette and Columbia, Portland quickly surpassed competitive settlements.

Known as the "City of Roses", Portland holds its annual "Festival of Roses" in June and contains the second largest all floral parade in the U.S. Following the "Festival of Roses" is the "Plunderathon,” a less family oriented celebration.
