Alabama A&M University is situated on 2,300 acres and is a five minute commute from downtown Huntsville, Alabama, the city of its location and the home of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. The campus was laid out and designed by one of the world's most famous landscape artists, Frederick Law Olmstead sr., who designed New York City's Central Park. The school has a long history dating back to 1875 and was created by ex-slave William H. Councill. The original mission of the school was to provide specific education in the areas of agriculture and engineering due to the boom in Industrial Revolution-related job fields. Over time, the university has added a number of liberal arts programs in order to continue its history of modern relevance. Students may complete the whole of their education with Alabama A&M, as they offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs. There are 51 majors to choose from in fields such as business and public affairs, education, humanities and behavioral sciences, as well as the agriculture and engineering programs of its inception; updated, of course, for today's technological advances.

Not only will students learn in a beautifully designed, and peaceful atmosphere, they will also learn in a setting that boasts a 14 to 1 faculty/student ratio. This means close, personal attention from the school's distinguished faculty. 49% of the classes have fewer than 20 students. Campus living for freshman is an ideal way to build bonds and friendships. The school offers dorm-style accommodations. Upper classmen and graduate students may choose one of the various student housing options off-campus within the town of Huntsville.

There are over 115 registered student clubs and organizations that are sure to satisfy a diversity of interests commensurate with the diversity of the student body. A full athletics department offers both men's and women's teams in golf, tennis, track and field and basketball. There are teams for men's football and baseball and a women's softball team as well.
