Armstrong Atlantic State University, also known as Armstrong Atlantic, is a four-year public institution that is part of the University System of Georgia. Established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College, the school and its 175 students were originally located in the historic Armstrong House. The school developed into a four-year program in the 1960’s. It gained state university status in 1996 and changed its name to Armstrong Atlantic State University. Today, Armstrong Atlantic serves a student body of over 700 on a 268 acre arboretum-style campus located just outside of downtown Savannah, Georgia.

Armstrong Atlantic offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in over one hundred academic programs through its Colleges of Liberal Arts, Science and Technology, Education, and Health Professions, as well as its Graduate Studies programs. First-year admission requires a minimum combined SAT score of 900, minimum English and Math ACT scores of 18 each, and a minimum high school core GPA of 2.5. Eighty-six percent of Armstrong’s student body comes from Georgia, twelve percent from other states and two percent from eighty-four foreign nations.

Armstrong Atlantic students participate in a variety of extracurricular programs including intramural sports, clubs and cultural performances. There is also a strong Greek presence on campus, with nine fraternity and sorority organizations. Celebrate Armstrong, the school’s annual festival, takes place in October and features carnival activities, musical performances and student competitions.

The university fields five men’s and six women’s intercollegiate sports teams who compete in the NCAA Level II Peach Belt Conference. The teams are collectively known as the Pirates.
