Auburn University at Montgomery (Alabama) is a satellite university of Auburn University. The main campus for Auburn University is located in Auburn, Alabama. A coeducational public university, Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) was established in 1967. Auburn University is one of the largest universities in Alabama with over 25,000 students and over 1,200 faculty members. AUM opened its doors to 600 students in 1969. Auburn is a land-grant university. AUM is the metropolitan/city campus for Auburn though it is located seven miles east of Montgomery on a 500 acre campus.

The Princeton Review named AUM the "Best Southeastern College" and AUM's business school is often named one of the best business schools in the world. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredited AUM to give bachelor's, master's, doctoral (with Auburn University) and specialist degrees. There are five schools in Business, Science, Education, Nursing and Liberal Arts. In 2008-2009 AUM had over 4,500 undergraduate students and close to 900 graduate students. Close to 2/3 of the students are female and just over 1/3 is male. Whites make up 58% of the student populations; Blacks make up a third; the rest are Asian and Hispanic.

The continuing education program enrolls over 10,000 students each year. Popular majors are business administration, nursing, liberal arts, biology and education (elementary and secondary). There are annual lectures called the Durr lectures (named for Montgomery lawyers and civil rights activists) and the Ingram lectures (named for the political journalist, Robert Ingram).

Students live in apartment like residential housing that are split into three sections - The Commons, the Courtyards, and Warhawk Hall. The AUM Warhawks compete in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). Notable alumni include the actress, Olivia Spencer; poet and English professor, Barbara Wiedemann, and Mark Twain scholar Alan Gribben.
