Bellarmine University is a Roman Catholic school, located in Louisville, Kentucky. It was founded in 1950. It began as Bellarmine College and is named after the Cardinal Saint Robert Bellarmine, an Italian Jesuit and Catholic Church leader who lived between 1542 and 1621. Bellarmine College became a university in 2000. It now has seven colleges and offer 50 undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as several Ph.D programs. The campus is about 140 acres in Belknap area of Louisville. There are now over 3,400 students, undergraduate and graduate. According to US News and World Reports, the 2013 rating for Bellarmine University was Regional University – South. Tuition and fees are over $30,000. The early action deadline is November 1 and the final application deadline is August 15. Bellarmine University is more selective with an acceptance rate of 51.8 percent.

There is a 12:1 student to faculty ratio at Bellarmine University. Over half of the classes have less than twenty students. Popular majors are in healthcare (psychology and biological and biomedical sciences) and business fields (business, management and marketing). Students stay beyond their freshman year at a nearly 80 percent rate. The school magazine is the Bellarmine Magazine. The seven Bellarmine University Colleges are the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (named after Donna and Allan Lansing); the School of Business (named after W. Fielding Rubel); the School of Education (named after Annley Frazier Thornton); a school of Communication, a school of environmental studies and a school of continuing and professional studies.

Bellarmine University encourages its foreign language and non-foreign language students to study abroad in full time and part time exchanges with over 150 foreign schools on six continents. The Bellarmine Knights play in a multi-purpose stadium. The chapel remembers the Archbishop of Louisville and founder, John A. Floersh. The Siena Complex (under construction) will be home to over 500 students. It is modeled after the town center for Siena, Italy - Piazza del Campo.
