Hotels near Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN

Bethel College is an evangelical Christian liberal arts institution located in Mishawaka, Indiana. It is affiliated with the Missionary Church, a Trinitarian evangelical body committed to “church planting and world missions.” The school’s history can be traced back to 1893, when Daniel Brenneman, founder of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ (predecessor to the Missionary Church) called for the establishment of a training institute. Formal church approval did not come, however, until 1944. Land was purchased in 1946 and Bethel College was opened in 1947 with ninety-four students. Steady growth over the next several decades led to the reorganization of the school on a university model in 2006.

Today, Bethel College is organized into three academic divisions: Division of Natural & Social Sciences; Division of Humanities & Education; and the School of Nursing. The current student enrollment is approximately 2000, consisting of around 1300 traditional undergraduates, 650 adults taking evening and weekend classes, and 250 graduate students. The college offers courses of study through nineteen academic programs leading to the awarding of associate, bachelor and master degrees. Many students prepare for professional careers by participating on one of the college’s eight pre-professional programs. Bethel College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of College and Schools.

Bethel College’s campus is situated on eighty acres in Mishawaka, a city of approximately 48,000 residents, in north central Indiana. Approximately half of Bethel’s students choose to live on-campus in one of seven men’s and six women’s residence halls, or in other school-operated off-campus housing. Students can participate in a wide variety of campus-sponsored programs including music and theater groups, intramural sports and other clubs and organizations. Spiritual life centers around chapel services, which are held in the Everest-Rohrer Fine Arts/Chapel building and the Octorium, located in the Middleton Hall of Science.

Bethel’s varsity athletic teams, nicknamed the Pilots, compete through the NAIA as members of the Crossroads League and as part of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
