Capital University is a private, comprehensive, independent liberal arts institution located in Bexley, Ohio. Capital was founded by, and is affiliated with, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a mainline Protestant denomination. Established in 1830, Capital is the oldest university in Central Ohio and one of the oldest and largest Lutheran universities in North America. The university is founded solidly in the liberal arts tradition with its educational mission based on the values of free inquiry, critical thinking and leadership.

Capital University currently boasts an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 2,700. It offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in over 60 majors and 51 minors, as well as juris doctor degrees through the Capital University Law School. Full-time undergraduate students who meet the necessary requirements are eligible to join the university’s Honors Program. The Honors Program offers its members a number of specialized programs and perks, such as small, faculty-led seminars, service learning projects, and special honors housing. Students with a 2.50 or higher GPA are also eligible to participate in Capital’s study abroad programs. Capital University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Capital’s campus is situated on 48 acres in the Columbus, Ohio suburb of Bexley. The Law School is located separately in downtown Columbus. Features of the school’s main campus include the Blackmore Library and the Schumacher Gallery, with its more than 2500 works of art. Just over half of Capital’s students choose to live on-campus in one of the school’s five residence halls and two apartment complexes. Capital sponsors over 70 student clubs and organizations including intramural sports, student government, performance groups, religious organizations and arts & media clubs. There are also 13 university-recognized fraternities and sororities.

Capital’s 18 varsity sports teams, nicknamed the Crusaders, compete on the NCAA Division III level as members of the Ohio Athletic Conference.
